The 1914 single generation teaching is still there, in all its outdated glory, in the online version of the reasoning book on the jw.org website. The same article also explains why the teaching is not wrong and can't be changed. 🤣

Drop Off in Mentioning 1914
by steve2 invideos from the summer jw conventions ("be courageous) show the "urgency" about the end racheted up several notches.
paranoia rules supreme!.
curiously, though, very few, if any, statements in the convention program about 1914 and the overlapping generations.

DoFP,
Interesting to hear your story.
Historical side-note, for anyone that didn't know, Gary Gygax, the creator of Dungeons and Dragons was raised a JW. Those original role-playing fantasy board games inspired the online genre with games like Everquest and World of Warcraft.
As a born-in, I have heard stories similar to yours and as a kid, I wouldn't even listen to AC/DC music because it was supposed to be evil.

I have never replied to a thread on this subject, I don't usually even read them.
I just want to ask a genuine, respectful question. Have any of you guys that believe you have experienced paranormal activity ever taken psycho-active drugs- either medically or recreationally?
Also, amazing claims require equally compelling evidence to back them up. Wozza, you mention being able to manipulate objects and turn on lights like its a bodily function. Do you have any evidence of this?
For almost 100 yrs, various sceptic organisations around the world have offered hundreds of thousands of dollars to anyone that can demonstrate paranormal activity under controlled conditions. Have any of you guys cashed in yet? If not, why not?
I am not calling anyone here a fake. I am very much aware that its possible there are mysteries in the universe we don't fully understand yet. Its just that the 'evidence' I've seen about this stuff is like the 'evidence' for bigfoot, or UFO's- it always seems to be a bit blurry.

some might call this faith cold, strict, dogmatic but they're just trying to follow rules and give back to god.

12 june 2018 what to say
by LostAdam inhi eveyone, my sis told me something like where will i be after that day.
i couldnt realize at first what she meant, but i found this on net donald-trump-kim-jong-un-meeting-singapore-june-12/.
i found her reaction so pathetic, but i think she is really sorry for me leaving.. so how to do you reply to jw family or generally when news about world peace comes out?.

Hi LostAdam,
My super-dub friend also sent me this with along with the caption : 'are you ready'?
I reminded him that 1986 was designated the 'year of peace'. If that was not a worldwide proclamation, then what is?
The prophecy about peace and security is so vague that it would take a brave person- or maybe a group of 8 people to perceive when it happens.
World leaders literally talk about peace all the time.

Seeking info - murder suicide in WA Australia - were they Witnesses?
by iwasblind inhey guys.
a grandfather murdered his wife, daughter and 4 grandkids.. the father says his kids are in a "new system" and says his god is "jehovah".
the grandparents lived on a farm and called it their "foreever farm".

Have reasonably good info that the dad was raised a JW but never baptised. He used to take the kids to meetings. Don't know the details of the marriage break-up but I believe the ex-wife and her parents were NOT JW's.

Pre 2000 magazines now on JW Org- have there been alterations to the originals?
by joey jojo injust wanted to ask if anyone has found any glaring changes to the pre- 2000 wt or awake articles that have been put online compared to the original issues?.
cheers.

Thanks for the replies. :)
I did a little bit of digging myself although I don't own any original bound volumes anymore.
I started with this website and looked for anything relating to 'generation' that has been posted and commented on using pre 2000 WT as a reference.
It looked to me like the originals had not been altered (yet) regarding this particular topic. But it was a small sample size as I only referenced a handful of articles on the topic.
Like the Reasoning book, which is still available on JW org, the pre 2000 WT's that I researched, notably, the 1984 WT - the generation that will not pass away', still maintain that 'the generation' are the group of people alive in 1914 that will not pass away before Armageddon.
So, officially, as of this date, the org is promoting 2 different doctrines on the same subject. I don't really think any reasonable person would call that being 'faithful', or 'discreet'.

Wealth, Poverty, and Morality
by SecondRateMind ini am interested in the approach this forum takes to money.
apart from sex, (which i am quite relaxed about) it seems to me that wealth is the surest divider between those who are moral, and those who are not.. it seems jesus thought so, also.
luke 16:19-31 kjv describes well enough his dusty attitude to the rich who do not succour the poor.. and this world has many poor: so many, it might seem that we can do nothing about it, and twist his words; 'the poor ye shall have always with you, but me, ye shall not have always.

I'm at work so I haven't been able to read every reply. I'm sure that what I believe has probably already been said but here goes anyway.
Wealth is relative.
What is ' too much wealth'?
I agree with many that have said that giving money to ' poor ' people will solve nothing because if it did work there should be no poverty in any first world country with a social security network.
Wealth is a mindset.
The reason many are poorer than they should be is because they buy themselves luxuries first and try to save or invest second. Many spend way too much on takeaway meals, smoking, drinking, drugs, gambling, clothes - you name it. Try telling a rich guy that became rich by working 100 hours a week for 20 yrs and didn't waste his money on instant gratification that he should give most of his wealth away to a family that eats at mcdonalds most nights because mum is too lazy to cook.
Your post is a good one that proposes a problem that seems to have a very simple solution, but in reality, is a complex issue.
I should add that most first world countries already donate hundreds of millions of dollars to less fortunate countries every year.
I could go on but I have to keep working now :).
